Nesli Karadeniz

Nesli Karadeniz - Counselling Psychologist

Nesli practices a cognitive behavioural approach called Reality Therapy (ref: Dr William Glasser, USA) when working with her clients. She believes that a caring, empathic relationship lies at the heart of any kind of therapy and works with clients to offer insights into how making rational, effective choices can heal the mind and soul.

As infants we were made of the relationships that nurtured or failed to nurture us. We didn't choose our parents and other caregivers, but within a few years we began to make choices about how to react to them. As adults our choice of relationships determines who we are and who we will become. Hence it is what you choose to do in a relationship and not what others choose to do, that is the heart of Nesli's approach to psychological therapy.

She works from the premise that we contribute to our degree of happiness by how we think and act in our present day living. Meaningful relationships are central to a good life. Our happiness and fulfillment depend on the quality of our relationships, that the choices we make determine the kind of relationships we have and will have. We can create satisfying relationships only if we take responsibility for ourselves to get what we want and not by trying to control/change others.

She believes that we get into emotional binds like depression not because our standards are too high, but because our performance has been and is too low. Her objective is not to lower the aim, but to support her clients increase their accomplishments, by helping them fulfill their needs in the real world. Her method of strengthening her clients coping mechanisms involves honesty, concern, personal authenticity and confrontation.

Nesli has worked extensively in the Western Sydney Area Health Service dealing with addictions and in particular adolescent and family issues. She has had more than 10 years experience in providing therapy/counselling using a holistic approach.

Nesli provides counselling/psychotherapy to assist people from all walks of life to deal with a range of issues and personal and life stressors. She also offers counselling for chronic pain.

Nesli uses her multilingual language skills to work productively with people who cannot speak English. She is experienced in the use of English. Turkish, French and has a working understanding of Italian.
